a memory I will never forget
paired with a name I can never remember
I went to the water park with my cousin and her friends
at some point everyone was gone except me and my aunts friend
the water was cold and I didn't dare walk in so
I sit there with my feet in the sand
I had known this woman for a while nothing that I really knew about her though
she was a church lady so I guessed we had nothing in common
I barely believed in a god
I believed she was like all the others
we varied in conversation
her kids
the book she was reading
and then something came up
a teachings; a documentary
she said before she would never have wanted her kids to be gay🌈
but she looked at me
and said it 'opened her eyes'
yes her feet were in the sand but it amazed me how a Christian woman could have a mind as open as the great blue sky
I told her story of a guy I once dated
Robert; how I broke his heart and how I left him for his best friend
she just listened; there's no judgement in her eyes
I say, "it was a learning experience"
most people who heard the story, just called me a whore
without part of what I had to say
in that Christian mindset I'd seen previously before
had washed away in the clouds
with our feet in the sand and a smile on my face
all we need is an open heart to open up the gates
