Fireworks

They rise and glow up in the sky,
a moment bright before they die.
So many watch with hearts that ache,
for loved ones resting in that space.
But listen close—do you not hear?
The blasts sound sharp, they ring so near.
Like gunshots fired in the night,
like bombs that steal away the light.
The same loud sounds that took our own
now shine above in colors thrown.
Yet in our minds, the echoes stay,
where war and loss won’t fade away.
And though they shine and seem so bright,
get too close—they burn, they bite.
They hurt, they kill, they scar us too...
Funny, or just cruel to you?
