Flashing Lights

On Thursday we were involved in a very serious car accident. Everyone one involved survived. This is my way of coping.
Laughter.
Happiness.
Freedom.
The wind in my hair.
My hand holding yours.
The radio is too loud.
We are singing along.
More like shouting along.
Smiling.
Young.
Carefree.
Cruising down a country road.
Cigarette in hand.
An evening drive with my love
and my most cherished friend.
Turn left.
Turn right.
Look at that beautiful river.
Turn right.
Turn left.
Panic.
I see the truck.
I hear the bang.
My head hits the window.
I'm screaming.
I can't stop.
We can't stop.
I'm screaming.
You told me "goodbye."
Squealing tires.
Skidding.
Sliding.
Out of control.
Hit the ditch.
We are flying.
I am still screaming.
Tires meet the ground again.
It happened so fast.
I see a tree.
I see a tree!
I am screaming.
Silence.
I open my eyes.
Where am I?
I smell smoke.
So much smoke.
I'm choking.
Undo my seatbelt.
The door is stuck.
Get out get out get out!
Kick the door.
Punch it.
Shove my entire body against it.
It finally gives.
I crawl out.
The car is on fire.
Where is my husband?
I hear screaming.
Is it coming from me?
No.
Backseat.
Oh god she's trapped in the back seat.
Can't open the door.
"Move! get to the front!"
Get out get out get out!
She's hurt.
She's screaming.
Can't get out.
I drag her.
I grab her and I drag her through the woods.
Where is my husband?
Who are these people?
Someone takes her from me.
Who are you?!
I fall.
My head hurts.
I can't stop shaking.
Blood.
I see blood.
Where is my husband.
"Call 911!"
Where is my husband.
"Is anyone hurt?"
Where is my husband.
"Someone please help!"
"WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!?"
I finally find my voice.
He is on the road.
Unresponsive.
Someone is with him.
My friend is on the side of the ditch.
She is crying.
I try to calm her down.
She is screaming.
My husband reaches for me.
Thank god he's alive.
I go to him.
His eyes.
I've never seen such fear in his eyes.
Police.
"What happened?"
Flashing lights.
Paramedics.
"Who is hurt?"
Flashing lights.
A stranger.
"Is everyone out of the vehicle?"
Flashing lights.
I'm in an ambulance.
I'm at the hospital.
I'm in a room hooked up to machines.
A nurse.
"What do you remember?"
"Smoke and flashing lights."
