Floorboards

When I wash my floor boards
I think of my mother
Most of the time scrubbing them
Makes me wonder

So stoic in her presence
Yet subtle
Even though it's her first time living life
She seems to know where to get on every next shuttle
Equipped with thick skin but a soft heart
Some admire her scutal

She finds the track
To lead her in the right direction
With confidence - never looking back

The shield she carries
Shows her strength
I question where she built this base
For her youth wasn't easy yet she still got ahead of the race

My dark days have been lifted by her light
By my side for each and every fight
I'm not sure what I would do without my mother
So I scrub my floor boards in honor of her
Can I keep the shine forever? I wonder ...
