M

from my younger self

To the family I’d one day love
I’m just a kid right now—
full of dreams,
a little wild,
a little quiet,
trying to figure out why the world feels so heavy
before I even have anything to carry.
I don't know what love looks like yet,
but I know I want it.
Not the kind that fades when life gets hard—
the kind that stays,
even when you're tired.
Some days, I stare at the stars
and wonder if I’ll matter.
If I’ll grow into someone strong—
or just someone who hides better.
I don’t know your names yet,
but I feel you.

I don’t know where you are right now,
but I hope you’re safe.
And when I find you,
I’ll try to be the kind of man you can lean on,
even if I never saw one growing up.

I don’t know how to be a dad,
but I swear, I’ll learn.
Even if it scares me.
Even if I feel like I’m failing some days.
I just want to be the dad I needed.
I want to be better
than the silence I was raised in.
I know I’ll mess up.
I’ll get lost sometimes.
But I hope when you look at me,
you see more than the mistakes.
You see someone who never gave up trying.
Someone who chose you
every single day.
And if I ever build walls,
or fall quiet,
or seem far away—
please remember:
it’s not because I don’t love you.
It’s because I’m still learning
how to love myself.
But even as a kid,
I knew this much:
When I found you,
I’d finally know what home feels like.
