I felt a funeral in my brain,
A solemn procession in my head,
Mourners treading with heavy steps,
A weight that left me filled with dread.
The beat of a service like a drum,
Echoed in my troubled mind,
A constant thumping, never done,
Leaving my thoughts far behind.
And then they lifted up a box,
And carried it across my soul,
The boots of lead a heavy knock,
As if they carried my life's goal.
Space began to toll like a bell,
The heavens ringing in my ear,
My being just a listener,
Silent, lost, and filled with fear.
I was stranded in my own mind,
A solitary soul, wrecked and worn,
A strange race of silence to find,
Amidst the mourners, lost and forlorn.
