Oh, how the hills around me rise,
As I lift my longing eyes,
And wonder where my help will come,
From what source will my salvation come?
But lo, I hear a gentle voice,
From God above, I will rejoice,
For He who made both earth and sky,
Is my certain aid, my guide on high.
His hand will steady every step,
No careless slumber will He accept,
For He is ever watchful, never sleeps,
And Israel in His holy care He keeps.
Jehovah is my keeper true,
My changeless shade in all I do,
My defense on the right-hand side,
In Him alone will I confide.
No sun by day will ever harm,
Nor moon in silent night alarm,
For God will keep me safe from harm,
And lead me with His outstretched arm.
From every evil, every sin,
Jehovah will preserve me within,
And keep my going out and in,
Above me watching, my constant friend.
So unto the hills around I'll lift,
My eyes in faith, my soul uplift,
For God is with me evermore,
My salvation, my forevermore.
