Goodbye Tree

Goodbye Tree
I saw a tree—he waved at me.
So green was he, I didn’t know it could be.
Beautiful and bright, he tossed me a fruit,
but I couldn’t see what kind of tree he was.
I thought I should flee, so I ran,
the sun blazing overhead.
The tree caught me with a shadowed branch.
I waved back, plucked his fruit,
ate it in front of him,
spat seeds at his roots—
and he never waved again.
