Green Enough Where I Stand

I chased a field beyond the fence,
Where dreams looked lush and life made sense,
With greener blades and skies more blue,
A world that whispered, "Better than you."
I packed my hopes and left my ground,
For softer soil I thought I’d found.
But every step just felt the same,
A different view, but not new flame.
The flowers there still wilt with time,
The stars don’t shine with extra shine.
The laughter fades, the tears still fall,
New fences rise, just like the wall.
I missed the roots I once called mine,
The shade of trees that let me shine.
The weeds I knew, the rain I'd danced,
The quiet joys of second chance.
Now back I turn, with wiser eyes,
No longer fooled by painted skies.
I tend my plot with heart and hand
The grass is green…
where you choose to stand.
