Happy Father’s day dad, here I wrote you a letter.
I wish I could tell you face to face how I yearn for a relationship that was better.
I understand that you had your struggles and battles to fight,
But leaving your son without a father now that wasn’t right.
Happy Father’s day dad… I’ll tell my son about his grandfather.
I’ll tell him you were a good man that could have been the best for me only if you had tried harder. Made a bit of an effort maybe more phone calls.
Maybe a “you’ll be spending the holidays with me” would have made the sadness fall.
Happy Father’s day dad, you weren’t perfect and I’m not either,
Growing up my whole life all I knew was self-doubt and being bitter.
Why did you not want me? But now you’re gone forever.
I forgive you though, I just regret ever feeling so much anger.
Happy Father’s Day dad I hope you’re up there watching.
I try to put up a brave face today, but my heart is crying.
I so badly want to pick up the phone instead of a pen
Make that call to heaven, but that’s not covered on my cellular plan.
Happy Father’s day dad I hope you’re resting.
I could do with some advice because life is so testing.
I hope one day we can have a heart to heart,
When that time comes I hope we’ll both know where to start.
