holding on.

this isn't really a poem
more a freeflow train of thought
I'm thinking of lessons I should know by now
but I somehow forgot.
I got so caught up in the happiness
that I forgot pain always follows;
just because it's sunny today
doesn't mean it won't rain tomorrow.
but the good thing is, bad doesn't stay;
sooner or later, it has to go
and when it leaves, joy returns
like spring after winter snow.
I guess everything is always changing
and all is held in flux.
even when things are dark as night
there's no reason to give up.
sooner or later the sun will rise;
even the blackest midnight turns to dawn.
sooner or later tears will dry.
just be strong and hold on.
don't forget this lesson
whether life is joyful or bleak;
for better or worse, everything will change
and knock you off your feet.
shake off the bitter sadness;
just survive day to day.
drink in the happy moments,
because it's never here to stay.
I chose to believe these seasons
ultimately are to make us strong;
good things breed better things next time
and you have a limit to what will go wrong.
so right now, though I'm struggling,
I'll just keep pushing on.
things are about to get better;
I just have to wait for the next dawn.
