Air pressure in this frame of reference is understood to be the result of the composite bombardment of air molecules.
Atmospheric pressure is greatest at Earth’s surface because there are more molecules at lower levels.
At higher altitudes in the atmosphere, fewer molecules are present per unit volume, so the pressure they exert is less.
