I am an African

*I AM AN AFRICAN*
Nights with the drums rumbling
We dance and light the skies joyously
Daylight being the shadow cluster of the four leg walkers
Then the bellies shall face no mercy
Time told a story once
When we were the fragile trees high above the skies
When mist found a place in lives
When pace was a slug race
Feet left marks on solid grounds
Whilst rivers twist and splash in red
The cry of a baby annoying what it had turned into
With hope being no word to a soul
Spirit and ancestral power began the terror we faced
Pretending to help yet calling for armies and buzzy bees
With our voices billowed deep down the throats
Like strangled chickens begging for life
In the end of every rain of bullets
We gathered and gossiped those thrown away
In pools of tears and bodies of pain
We sung with courage and smiles
For the black and white we paint on the walls
We are Still the beings with culture and tradition
In tears and pain we shall hold hands to the end of days
True love is the floor we boast and stand to
We are Africans
Black and white
Fleshed and boned
I am an African
