Black curls bouncing as the energy
Only a four year old could have
Is exploding from a small body hopped up on cake and ice cream
Icing smeared on his small face
Eyes alight with wonder at all his aunts and uncles as they present presents
That only a four year old could ask for
Laughing at his antics we'd encourage his delight and antics as he scurried back and forth, to and fro.
We would celebrate because he is full of celebrations that only get more full every year
"I am 4 today," he says instead
To his heavenly daddy and
Unwraps with delight presents only the Lord can give,
Everyday and
His black curls still bounce with excitedness and wonder that
Only a four year old could have
Seated among the rest of them
That grow up in a place far better
Wrapped in loving arms that know no boundaries
With the One who is always present
Who gives good gifts
Who is hope of life eternal
"I am 4 today!"
He is four today, and I still celebrate your short life with delight and sadness
Because I missed out on you growing up and
I wish I could wipe that icing off your face
Here I am instead

Knowing you are so loved
Knowing you are in the best of places,
