I Call Upon The Molweni

South Africa's Everton Gorge
lies in submission to the
cascading waters of the
Molweni River
Her steep descent begins
as she plummets into the fertile river valley the pale blue water yielding a fine mist
Maidenhair ferns surrounding
the pool awaken to the balmy air unfurling their fronds to
cover miss and lichen beneath their leaves
A forested path is overgrown
with native palm grass and
white spent petals of the African Dog Rose
It's small green fruit crushed beneath my step releases a pungeant scent
The wild orchid in shades of
crimson and pink prolific
along the hillside leaves me
breathless
I find solitude at the mouth of the great river a hushed mur mur made by the course of the wind flowing through the
valley renders me complete
I recede to take my place high above the Molweni River
