I LEARNT TO DANCE ALONE

He taught me how to dance
But why didn't he tell me we danced to our last song
I stood there waiting for the next song to play
But there was silence
And I was left standing in a room of darkness
I heard voices in the distance
But none of them sounded like his
I closed my eyes and waited for the beat to drop
Not to realize it had already dropped for me
I saw some light in the distance
And to my surprise he was swaying with another
He held her hips the way he once held mine
And the smile that once uncaged my heart
Was hers
I tried to dance again but my legs just couldn't move
I was like a silent drum,
with no rhythm
I tried to dance again but my body was paralyzed to the floor we once stepped on
I looked again and I saw you dancing alone
And thought here is my chance
But she had already taken the very beat I fell inlove with
I stood right next to you but she changed our song and again you two stepped to a different tune
So I left and found my rhythm under the moon
It's silence made me create my own beat that flowed from my head to my heart then to my feet
I danced alone without the steps you taught me
Like a dove with no nest but free
I watched how she stepped on your toes
But that didn't bother me
I became the choreographer of my own dance piece
And the steps you taught me were just a memory of a song that held a melody with meaningless lyrics
