I

I Was Never Hard to Love

I Was Never Hard to Love
I used to measure love
by how long I could endure silence,
how well I could translate absence
into something that sounded like hope.

I called it patience.
God knows I did.

I stayed where my name
was spoken like an afterthought,
where I learned to shrink
so I could fit into maybe.

And still, I waited.

For replies that came late
and felt colder each time,
for apologies that never learned my language,
for a version of you
that only existed in my prayers.

I told God,
“Maybe if I love harder,
they will see me.”

But heaven was quiet.

And in that quiet,
something inside me broke—
or maybe… it woke.

Because love,
real love,
does not ask you
to disappear.

So I gathered every piece of me
I had left in your hands,
every soft “please”
I swallowed to keep you comfortable,
every night I convinced myself
this was enough.

It wasn’t.

The day I stopped waiting,
I did not become bitter.
I became whole.

I learned that leaving
is also a kind of prayer,
that sometimes God answers
by removing the table
you begged to sit at.

And now—
if you ever think of me,
know this:

I was never hard to love.

You were just
not ready
to be gentle with something
that chose you so easily.

I wrote this for anyone who stayed longer than they should have…
for anyone who confused silence with love.

Sometimes, walking away is the answer you prayed for.
