If I Could Send Her This

I loved her when I didn't know how
Just a child's feeling
Both a warm bed on a cold winters morn
And the nervous excitement of a Xmas dawn
I loved her when young love found its way
From glances and smiles
To crazy games we would play
A votive kiss, Held firm we'd be forever someday
I loved her when we parted ways for a while
But I held tight to her secret squinted smile
And that summer upon a sturdy tree
I proudly wrote our story to be
I loved her when I lost loves to novelty
And made bed the Goddess hedone
If I wronged you in my careless naivety
It's a shameful keepsake I'll carry to eternity
I loved her as the years mired its meaning
The hide grew thick, but I kept believing
Once with me you might softly say
"Love me as Eros now loves Psyche "
I loved her but it was never time to be .....
So I love her with every tarnish and line.
Carved reminders how I lost you to time.
Like a naive scratch upon a withered tree,
Me 4 you and you 4 me!
