C

if only

I lay my head down, now
Hopeful that exhaustion will carry me
To the blissful sanctuary of sleep
But they come yet again...
Is it not enough to tormented throughout my waking hours
By mocking fantasies of deeds undone
And words unspoken
Can the phantom thoughts leave me not-
Even to dream of what might have been?
Relentless, they come
To banish me to the hopeless despair
Of unknowing doubt
Not knowing peace
Not knowing what might have been...
If only...
If only...
