If you want me to believe

If you want me to believe in your deity
It ain't enough to cite tradition or authority
It takes empirical evidence objectively
Subjective experience can be deceiving, see
If you want me to believe in your claim
It ain't enough to appeal to emotion or fame
It takes rigorous testing with control and aim
The hypothesis must be falsifiable, that's the game
If you want me to believe in your scripture
It ain't enough to assert it as a picture
It takes critical reading with contacts and a mixture
Contradictions and errors should not elude capture
If you want me to believe in your miracle
It ain't enough to tell tales with rhetoric sparkle
It takes careful investigation with a skeptical circle
Natural explanations should be exhausted and fertile
If you want me to believe in your God
It ain't enough to preach with conviction and nod
It takes intellectual honesty with rigor and prod
The burden of proof is on you, so don't Dodge
