As I wander through the valley of shadows,
Where darkness looms around, I see
A figure approach. "Hark," it bellows,
"I hear footsteps; who is it that wanders towards me?"
Before long I see his anguished face,
Bright but sunken eyes hide much pain,
Though he grins. "For years I have travelled this place
Alone," he says, "and alone is how I must remain."
I lean in close and, with the gentlest of hands,
Brush his face free of his hair's loose strands.
I whisper, "loneliness is a pain you and I must share,
But I'm here with you now, don't let despair
Ruin those bright eyes, I've been there too.
Take my hand and together we'll see this darkness through.
