i'll tell you how i befriended my best friend. we were both in fifth grade. we met a while back during the first month in my new school and had a brief encounter once but that was way too brief. to be honest, entering my new school i was bullied by the very people i called my friends, i no longer trusted people and wanted to go to school. imagine a kid being bullied to the point of them not wanting to live. i was one kid out of many who dealt with the situation of being harassed. i told my mother that kids at school were bullying me because of my height and called me a complete failure. my mother ignored me thinking that i was overreacting, little did she know i was not. on the day of my english terminal examination, i missed the school bus. intentionally. unintentionally. i had no idea how to reach school and appear for the exams. my mother walked on foot along with me to the public transportation stop but there were hardly any vacant vehicles to commute by. i squinted against the sun at the distant dust trail raked up by a huge car on its way to us. all around me , lonely crickets were calling for company and in my chest, my heartbeat was fast and unsteady, even as my mind was having bizzare and menacing thoughts. after a while the same voice speaks again, the one shouting at the distance, but closer, like it’s coming along with the wind now.
"come darling one. i've been waiting for you."
even though i was still convinced that no one was actually ready to help me out, i couldn't resist asking the voice a question, although i really didn't expect an answer. i murmured, "who are you?" although i knew exactly who she was.
"i am your destiny."
"you’re my destiny? do you mean to say…"
this time the only answer i received was my mother shoving me inside the girl's car.
‘of course’, she murmured, "i can’t be here for no reason. i would’ve never been this brave in real life. but if this is heaven, why is it so dark and cold?" all of a sudden, a smoky blue light appeared in the distance. magical and mysterious, it lured us to our school and we felt so relieved in it's warmth which was encircling us.
