I'm sorry ; a bit of me dies

I'm sorry I wasn't an sports star
I'm sorry I tried to be like you
I knowdeep down you're in me somewhere
but it's not in my actions.
it's in the way you taught me
the way I manage finances
it's in the way I drive
and in the way I talk
you did all that you can do
and showed me how to live
but dad I'm a man now
I think I can go from here
I love you till I die
and that's never going to change
I take the wisdom you gave me
and apply it in my life.
I know I'm not the perfect son
but I know I had the perfect dad.
I'll treat my own children
the way you and mom did me.
I know I wasn't always there
when you needed me the most
but in my defense dad
I was young and dumb with dreams of my own.
I cannot say sorry enough
and I know you always forgive me
I guess things got heated
and I know you've had a lot of change
like the way you never wanted a tattoo
but now you have 2 and want more
I do t know you too well now dad
but one thing is for sure
I'll never stop loving you dad
I'll always cry knowing you'll leave me
I'll tell the world of your deeds
and the way you made us smile
the day you leave this earth dad,
is the day a bit of me dies inside.
