The remarkable land with peculiar beauty,
The youth, its hope, risen from lethargy,
Where the despots began to reign,
But the hope was deprived, and buried the sovereign;
What shalt I do?
Indolent Filipinos, what art thee doing?
Indulgences everywhere, what art thee looking?
Folly everywhere, what art thee saying?
Rizal battled with pens and wits;
We battle through plumes and words,
Mighty is he, who writes and reads,
Through strife and war equip with swords,
What shalt I do?
We are oppressed and censured,
We are slaved and killed,
By the friars which head tonsured
Destroyed the belief we once built,
Burned the legends and tales;
Erased the history once told,
Forcefully worked all child, all males,
Our bodies, our soul, in tortuous fold;
What shalt I do?
Oh, my destituted country,
The land dearest to me!
Be not a slave of our own town,
Its our land, with great frown.
Let us reminsce not the insolent Spaniards-
That once made my Philippines insaned with grief,
Forget the aristocrats nor the oligarchs,
Be not blind, be not mute, be not deaf!
The Island of Despair, I sang aghast,
No lust, no fondness like a slaughtered trash,
No peace, no merriment of censure rash,
Thrown everywhere like pieces of ash;
Kept injured neatly and efficiently.
What shalt thee do?
Our country, is our country,
My land is my land,
I woke up in a nightmare for three-hundred years,
In solemn prayers, protect my fatherland,
Love her with great individuality.
Consign to thee,
The pearl of Asia;
The home of liberty,
The home of the free.
What shalt I do? What shalt thee do?
