I

In Grace , I Let Go

In Grace , I Let Go
I met you by the roadside,
Two older friends beside you,
March’s sun warming our first hellos.
From that day, laughter found a rhythm,
And I learned to trust the quiet spaces
Between your words and mine.

You picked me up after work,
We shared fresh milk from the cow,
Fishing lines, soccer games,
Moments stitched into ordinary days.
You were my compass in prayer,
Guiding me back when I drifted from God.

We spoke of past loves and dreams,
Of mistakes, lessons, and midnight fears.
No romance ever passed between us,
No hidden touches or stolen nights—
Only the closeness of two souls
Seeking light in each other’s company.

Yet somewhere, shadows quietly grew,
Silent walls unseen by me.
I realized I was stepping
Into spaces I could not own,
Into hearts I must respect
Even when I did not yet see the hurt.

So I choose distance, softly,
One-word replies, silent calls,
Not out of anger or disdain,
But out of love for the peace we cannot share.
I forgive you, I forgive us,
I let go of the warmth I held too close.

And still, I carry the memories:
Your laughter in the evening breeze,
The gentle lessons, the quiet strength,
The way friendship once felt sacred,
Even as I step back with grace,
I thank the past, and I release my heart.
In Grace , I Let Go
