In her eyes..

She tries everything to smile
Even if it takes awhile
Her eyes still have dried up tears
That she held back throughout the year.
Her memory shifts from now to way back then.
You think you got a glimpse of her for just a second
Then she says something you don't understand.
That's when you hold her hand.
Her mind is slowly fading away.
You just wish you had something good to say.
But instead of talking you hold her in your arms.
The place that keeps her safe from harm.
Time is usually the healer of pain.
But with alzheimers disease time will eventually make her insane.
She will die not even knowing my name.
I wonder sometimes, who carries the shame.
