in moments of darkness, when i am blinded and possessed by the tensions of life, literature guides me magically. times when i feel intolerably heavy-hearted are momentarily resolved as i turn to my favourite book for reassurance. books comfort me that even in the worst of situations, good fate persists. when i am indecisive, i reacquaint myself with the safe and familiar characters that i know and love. whenever i feel perplexed, i smile because i have lived the lives of the brave warrior, the charming enchantress, the lofty duchess and even the common day peasant.
