In The Front Yard

My head might be full of roses but
My veins are like stems
And every time I am wronged
Another thorn sprouts
Trauma has made me jagged
My body has grown so used to
Wounds that now it curves
And submits
To the hedges growing tall within me
Keeping out any visitors
There are spiders in the lawn
And snakes in the bushes
Worms hang from trees
Their silk webs encasing leaves
And these thorns
That have grown for years
No longer make me bleed or cry
My yard overgrows
You would never know
What horrors wait under the soft grass
