INK IS GENTLER

I dont recite my poems.
Speech is a leash,
tethering language to
the confines of the throat,
forcing it into a shape
it was never meant to take.
Ink is gentler.
It does not demand the rigidity of tone,
the tyranny of breath,
the betrayal of hesitation.
Some words are meant
to live on a page,
where they are free to be misread,
where they are allowed
to mean too much
or nothing at all.
“To speak is to imprison;
to write is to set free"
