There are painful images in my life
That haunt me night and day
And in the dreams they enter
I can never get away.
Then I wake and realize
That all the hurt that I have done
Is now bound up inside my soul
Where the two have become one.
So I fled into the darkness
To hide away from those I hurt
And to protect myself from them as well
I dug a trench into the dirt.
Then you entered the darkness where I hid
And found me there alone
Crying for all the pain I’d caused
As I struggled with my own.
Your love could soothe a thousand beasts
Including the one in me
And so it wrapped its way around my heart
Oh so easily.
When you took me in your loving arms
And comforted me as I cried
I told you of all the things I’d done
And how I wish that I had died.
But you wouldn’t let me stay there
In the darkness where I lay
So you lifted me up with your love
And carried me away.
Now that your love protects me
In this painful world were in
I can finally stop the pain
That burns from deep within.
So thank you my sweet princess
For choosing to love someone like me
Now I’ll always be there for you
Because of the good in you I see.
