It Just Isn't Enough

Maybe happiness isn't enough anymore
You'll feel that sick feeling clutching your chest
Nails digging into your heart
Scraping the cells and veins that carry your blood
And your eyes turn red, and your cheeks are wet
Your tongue hits the roof of your mouth, and you purse your lips
Your throat is aching, and you start to sweat
All of a sudden you're shaking
The whole thing is a mess
Life goes on and passes you by
Moments of joy come and go
And then it's night
Three in the morning, watching the clock tick
We all clutch our chests to heave through the tears
Emotions fly around us like stars
One always shines brighter
Maybe happiness just isn't enough
