Josey Cane

My Chapter Eight Is Josey Cane;
Though I still travel our old terrain.
I went back to Camelback
To reminisce about the good, the bad,
And the ugly in our old shack
where you use to play for me
Your favorite Clint Eastwood Movies
I found your AA book
soaked in the Chattahoochee.
And found the X Files DVDs
Returned to the library.
I still visit Bell Mountain In Hiawassee
And drive the back roads
In Sautee Nacoochee.
I remember you use to sing
my name into the chorus
Of "Danny's Song" as we drove through the Chattahoochee Forrest.
You loved
looking for salamanders
In the rivers;
And kayaked
even in December.
We raised mr fox together
And read Alice in Wonderland
Under the covers.
And you'd blast Days N Daze
In Your truck, 'Darlene';
And reenact scenes from Initial D
While speeding down the Appalachian Mountains.
We were westward bounded
And no longer grounded.
And your Saguaro flower
Was on the horizon.
We drove Route 66 through Texas
And searched for fear in loathing
In las vegas.
All you wanted
Was to be free like Chris Mccandless
And Hunter S. Thomson;
But ended up getting
a broken transmission
And stranded.
I wish I could still say,
Our love could move mountains
And keep the sun from setting;
But it all ended
With the remorse of a loss
Of a feeling.
I guess our love
Was meant to fall
Like a couple of September Doves
'Cause we both ended up
Like a pair of lost dogs.
