Just Another Day

A leaf drifts on the wind,
past a stray cat stretching in the sun,
a crack in the pavement glistens with rainwater.
A balloon floats, forgotten,
tugged by invisible threads of air.
The sound of a train hums in the distance,
while a lone sock lies abandoned on the sidewalk.
Someone laughs from a window overhead,
their voice carried away like the leaf,
until all that’s left is silence,
and the quiet pulse of the city.
