"Just Listen"

You're sitting in a classroom
And the teacher is going into great detail at the front
But it's all just words
And they don't ever stick
You start to think something is wrong with you
"Is it me?"
"Is it the way they are phrasing?"
Everyone around you seems to nod
Understanding is key,
But you forgot the lock
Then you get home
Exhausted
Reading sentence after sentence
After sentence
After sentence
...
Something is getting in way
Is it yourself,
Is it the room,
Is it the air,
Maybe it's the people
There's four words you'll be thinking about for a long time
"What don't you understand?"
Maybe if you just listen,
Why don't you just listen,
Then you'll understand,
Just listen
But you can't
You'll try to do it by yourself
Your eye bags are heavy,
And your bed is five feet away
But your thoughts are washing up the page
Stuck,
Reading a sentence,
And you're reading a sentence,
And you're reading a sentence,
And you're reading a sentence
...
"What is he even saying?"
"When did we learn that?"
"This always happens."
"Please just
Listen."
You're exhausted again
You don't even know why
You haven't done anything to day
Your brain is fried without the results to justify it
You write notes and reminders to keep yourself in line
Little reminders plastered on your wall
Little reminders of what you failed to do,
Of what you haven't even tried to do
You don't want to let people down
You wish you could do the opposite
It should be so easy,
But no matter what you do, your mind isn't with you
It would be easier if you just listened
But you can't
