Knowing it now

Knowing it now

Oh, to be loved.

Oh, how great it is to be loved.

Oh, how I desire to be loved.

But what is love?

And do I really want it — or do I just want attention?

Has the word “love” lost its meaning?

Do I want love, or do I want to be loved?

If I’m loved, would I even know that I’m being loved?

If I’m given love, would I even know what it is?

The Bible tells me “God is love,” so I looked to Him.

1 Corinthians 13 showed me what love truly is:

> Love is patient and kind.

Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.

It does not demand its own way.

It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.

It does not rejoice about injustice,

but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.

Love never gives up,

never loses faith,

is always hopeful,

and endures through every circumstance.

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—

and the greatest of these is love.

Knowing it now, I want love — not attention.

Knowing it now, I see how much the word has lost its meaning.

Knowing it now, I want love, because I don’t deserve to be loved.

Knowing it now, I realize I wouldn’t have known I was being loved.

Knowing it now, I wouldn’t have known what love was.

Knowing it now... can I even point out acts of love?

Was love when Jesus died on the cross for me?

Was love when God sent His Son to die for me?

Is love the care my parents provide for me —

or is that just them following the Bible’s instruction?

Can I appreciate what I’m not sure of?

Knowing it now... do I know love, or do I understand it?

I think I know it.

Do you understand it?
