Entering the Salon on 115th N Roseland. The shop was filled with clients. It was a lot of barbers cutting hair. "Fat Cuts" is what we call the place. My beautician, Rena, told me she was ready to do my hair. Rena is 41 years of age with short blonde hair and has a light complexion. She is a big bone woman. She was the only beautician there. She had a lot of clients ahead of me. I ended up waiting for 6 hours until it was dark outside. She was finally ready to do my hair.
"What you gettin today, " Rena asked.
"Press an curl, " I said.
"Okay, " she said. I am usually quiet at the shop, even though I am an outspoken person. When I go to the salon, I do not go there to make friends. I go there only to get my hair did, nothing else. I do not go to the salon to gossip.
"So Ciara, I heard yo mama tell me last month that you are pregnant, you didn't even tell me girl, how many months are you? " she asked.
"4 months, " I said.
"The baby daddy in her life?" She asked pushing my head towards the sink.
"Yeah, he is, " I said.
"That's good, you still stay with your mama right?" She asked.
"Yeah, " I said.
"Keep staying with her cause your mama will always be there for you and that baby, moving out is hard, finding a place is hard, it's hard work. I was 24 once and moved out in my 20s, but I came back home, cause it's hard, " Rena said
appointing me to sit by the dryer.
"Trust me, Ciara, you don't wanna move out, " she said. She paused and told me to sit up front so she can blow dry my hair and comb it out.
"So are you moving out or staying with your mama?" she asked.
"We were planning on getting our own, " I said.
"Ciara, I know you are grown and all, and it is your decision…"
I was saying in my head, "it is my decision bitch, yo ass can't tell me what to do, you just my beautician. But I just kept quiet in the salon and listened.
"Yo mama love that baby, listen to yo mama now, not a man, I'm not sayin yo boyfriend ain't like that, but men change when they get into marriage, people change when they get married," she said.
While she was giving her opinion, I was saying in my head, " I might have to start going somewhere else to get my hair done, cause I'm tired of her ass going on and on."
"If you do decide to move out yo mama's house with yo boyfriend, y'all have to plan ahead, but it is y'all decision.
"Yeah, it is, " I said. After she had done my hair, I got out of that shop. I was thinking to myself, "why was she telling me that I was too young to move out with my boyfriend? It's my decision."
I asked God was I really ready to move out of mom's house at 24 and married that soon? I know I usually always make my own decisions, but is I am ready?
God answered my prayers, and he informed me that I was not ready to get married yet. I have a lot to learn about marriage. I do not want to get pressured into marriage by anyone.
