I close my eyes tight
imagining this-
Fireworks alight,
crimson orange gold so bright
ignite the birds too close in flight.
Passionate trees bursting the last of their leaves
flinging them to the earth below.
They gather together,
crisp weightless mountains that crackle and shatter underfoot.
A river of lava trees flowing as far as the eye can see.
The final burst of life and color
has finally
reached the autumn crescendo.
The red carpet rolled out to usher in
silver and white diamonds
and crystals faceted.
The forest drops her jacket and braces the winter cold with bones barren
