If only I had listened to my instincts,
I would have seen it coming,
The beginning of it all,
My nightmare.
If only I had listened to my instincts,
I would have avoided this predicament.
Such a perilous decision I made,
and now am in deep water.
If only I had listened to my instincts,
I would have smelled it,
the reek from the gardener,
because it was right in front of my nose.
If only I had listened to my instincts,
Maybe I would press restart,
an entire clean slate,
Maybe I would take it all back.
Now it is too late,
What's done is done,
It is simply water under the bridge but,
A lesson learnt in the cradle
that I'll take to the tomb.
