Longing

I sit by the window, lost in a dream,
A longing within me, consuming my being.
For how many days, how many nights,
Have I yearned, have I craved, for that which ignites?
A desire, deep-rooted, intertwined within,
It pulls at my heartstrings, whispers in my ears,
Filling my world with hopes and fears.
The longing, an ache that won't subside,
For that which I have wanted, so fervently I've tried.
I reach out, I grasp, yet it slips through my hand.
Each passing moment, a taunting reminder.
But patience, my friend, is a virtue they say,
And so I shall wait, for that destined day.
For in the depths of longing, lies a flame,
A fire that fuels, that drives me to claim.
Knowing one day, my longing will rise.
