It wasn't always easy
But we never went to bed hungry
Daddy was laboring hard
To provide want we needed
Mama made sure we're fed
We prayed before going to bed
She was keeping us in line
And all the world was fine
Yes I felt inferior at times
We're not treated the same
It's tough when you're not happy
Tougher cause I couldn't see
Looking back I'm truly grateful
I never knew life could be so cruel
Look at those who looked down on me
I was unnoticed and poor as can be
But I've learned to fend for myself
I've learned to give myself love
Above all I've learned to appreciate
Coz I've seen how life can devastate
