Writing, wishing, waiting, wondering,
Hiding, hating, thinking,
Through the hours that stretch like years,
While memories keep sinking.
Each poem that I never sent,
Each call I didn't make,
Now haunts the corners of my mind,
Like ripples on a lake.
Time slips past like morning frost,
In silence deep and cold,
While tears trace paths upon my face
For stories left untold.
Empty bottles, razor blades
Echo with your name;
The space between then and now
Burns with quiet shame.
Days cascade like autumn leaves,
Each one without your light;
I count the chances that I missed
In shadows of the night.
Your voice fades like distant stars,
Beyond my reaching hand,
While loneliness seeps slowly in,
Like water into sand.
If only I had known back then,
The value of each day,
Instead of letting precious time
Just simply slip away.
And so I'm back to where I start:
Writing, wishing, waiting, wondering,
Hiding, hating, cutting, thinking,
Through endless years of remembering.
