He taught me what love was.

My version of love was twisted,
But he taught me what love really was.
He taught me that love isn't always cursed or it doesn't always hurt,
But that there are different types of loves and every love changes you into a stronger version of yourself.
I spent so many years being disgusted at the idea of love,
Wondering why we risk it all even though we aren't sure if it will last?
But he taught me that love isn't a cautious dipping of a toe in the ocean,
It's risking it all and diving into the depths,
Ready to overcome anything and being brave enough to discover the deepest and darkest depths.
He wasn't my forever,
But he will always be my first.
