Mama

At her feet I found the solace I sought in another's arms
With her touch, I felt a warmth I never thought I'd feel not tangled up in sheets
She was more than a woman who gave me life
A caregiver who tended to my selfish needs
She like Peter was to the church
Was the pillar upon which all my dreams and aspirations were built
She was the well where I drew my strength
They say a child follows your example more than your advice
She knew this very well
For she didn't not teach me to be brave
Or to be kind, or to love
She held her sword and fought
In battles that weren't hers
To protect those she loved
So I hope I will be strong for her when she needs me
Fight her battles like she fought mine
Or at least fight alongside her.
