We wear the mask that hides our pain,
Our shattered hearts and souls in vain,
For society demands a smile,
And pretense is the only style.
The world can't bear our agony,
It turns its back and can't see,
The torment that we must endure,
As we hide behind our mask so pure.
We smile, but oh, the pain inside,
The screams we stifle, we cannot hide,
We laugh, but inside we cry,
And every night, we wonder why.
Yet we keep wearing our masks,
As we continue with our tasks,
For the world demands a smile,
And pretense is the only style.
O great Christ, we call to you,
Our hearts torn, our souls askew,
Please hear our cries, our pain erase,
And let us remove this suffocating face.
But until then, we wear the mask,
And go on with our daily task,
For the world will never understand,
The anguish we feel in this land.
