I have a time where I slept with a bath towel.
It was similar to kids who had blankets or stuff animals.
I did it because it made me feel safe.
Allowed me to take hug, squeeze, and cry
Without judgement or hate.
I remember my aunts laughing at how we were poor. Only because we chose to sleep on the cold wooden floor.
I remember my uncles mocking our outdated clothes. But did they even know the struggles my parents had to uphold.
I remember my father crying at the darkest of nights because he wanted to bring a house, cars, and his children's dreams into real life.
I remember my mother looking me in the eye telling me her worth. Pleading to me that she is no better than dirt.
I remember these times that make up my character.
I will never let it break me
But I will never forget my little bath towel that I held on to during those long cold nights.
