Memories of Grandma

She used to kiss my forehead
Before I slipped off to sleep
Whispering softly in my ear
Tomorrows worries will keep...
She was my sanctuary
When I, my mother couldn't control
Her beatings could not break me
For my Grandma kept me whole...
Uncle Jr used to bully me
That is until one day I snap
I used skills I taught myself
So that was the end of that...
Grandma had warned him
Her husband said, "He's only having fun"
He didn't care much for me
As I was not my mothers son...
Every year in Connecticut I fought
Every summer in Vermont I bailed hay
At ten a 50lb bail was very easy
It was a long hours with little pay...
I did well in school my last year north
In Gymnastics I excelled at on the rings
I was never taught just naturally knew
As I did many other things...
They laid my Grandma to rest
On the 23rd of August in 1975
I can still her whispering in my ear
As long as you remember me I'm alive...
Her whispers of encouragement
Before I slip off to sleep each night
No matter how bad the days look
I'm with you so all will be alright...
