In the beginning we stood our ground,
Said we didn't want emotions involved,
We both seen that there were boundaries,
And it wasn't seen as a problem to solve,
For me it was trying to stay focused,
For you I think it was potential pain,
We was there for each other back then,
And just our company was worth the gain,
Then we got involved even deeper,
To be honest I think I made the first pass,
My heart started beating different for you,
And then all that came with it came fast,
I unknowingly let my insecurities back in,
And I push their blame somewhat on you,
Then everything you was trying to avoid,
Clashed with mine and they both grew,
Things got carried away in the tides,
And we lost the focus we had at the start,
Now it was just a matter of time,
Till we broke each other's hearts,
I can't turn back time and take it away,
But I can halt the damage from continuing,
I'll have to play the bad guy for awhile,
But eventually I hope you see what I'm doing,
I'm saving you and I'm saving myself,
From our own accidental demise,
And hold on to our desperate love,
Instead of watching as it continuesly dies,
I never wanted emotions to be involved,
But it was never my choice from the start,
I'll never forget all the small things we shared,
I'll hold them ever so close to my heart.
