In their next session Mrs. Atkins talks more about the Write It Out step.
"Now I'm going to inform you more about these writing exercises. Have you both written a draft or letter before?" Mrs. Atkins asked.
"I've written a letter to send to the mailbox, but as for a draft, are you talking about a rough draft?" Mala asked.
"No that's not what I'm talking about. The draft letter is a personal draft of who hurt you in the past or present. You both can do that through the power of writing. Writing can help you if you have a lot of emotional baggage to release, have a lot of pain, anger, or feel stuck in life. It’s very beneficial and have been scientifically proven. Draft letters is a way of releasing all the hate, pain that is holding inside of you. You can just write everything out on what you're feeling about someone. You can use profanity, you can say anything you want to say. When you are writing a draft, you keep writing, don't stop to check for grammar and punctuations. You write, and you write until you are finished releasing all the hateful feelings that was held up inside of you. After you write the draft, than you clean it up writing a real letter to the people who hurt you and forgiving what they have done to you. The forgiveness letter is a way of understanding what that person have done to you, and you are moving forward. It’s not only about writing, but more specifically writing letters. Writing drafts and forgiveness letters has turned my life around. For the next three weeks, I want you both to write your very deepest thoughts down in a notepad or a journal. Expressing your feelings about the most traumatic experience of your entire life or an extremely important emotional issue that has affected you and your life. The most importantly, the people who has hurt you. In your writing, I would like you to let go and explore your deepest emotions and thoughts. You might connect your topic to your relationships with others, including yourselves as lovers, parents, friends or relatives from your past, your present or your future. Who you would like to be or who you are now. You can write about the same issues or experiences on all days of writing or about different topics each day. All of your writings will be highly confidential, I will not share those with anyone. It is only for you both to explore, practice, release, and heal. Now I am going to give you the steps on what you need to do. This session will go over today because I will see you both in three weeks," she informs.
