"Hello everyone, I'm John Alexander, but you will call me Mr. Alexander. This is Speech 100, so throughout the year you will be giving a speech intro everyday in the start of class telling us a little bit about yourselves. I will write the questions on the board every morning when you walk in. When class starts, that's when I will call on you to give your speech sentence, okay?" He informs.
No one says anything, and he continues talking. "So, this morning, you will be sharing with us on what is your future career plans? And what town were you born and raised from? So since today is the first day of class, you will just ask these questions, and the rest of the period, I want you to socialize with each other so you can get to know one another because you all will be working in groups throughout the school year, so please find friends in this class.
The Agarwals did not have to worry about finding friends because they are all set with Kathy and the rest of the group.
Mr. Alexander calls everyone of each by their names to introduce themselves, and the Agarwals is going first because he knows they are new to the school.
"Okay, now Martia Agarwal?"
"I'm nervous, I don't want to give a speech, I just want regular work," she tells Mala.
"It's okay, you will be fine, you will do good, I'm right here, I have your back, just look at me when you start talking," Mala said, reassuring Martia.
Even though Martia is 13 years old, she is very sensitive emotional and too innocent. She's so innocent that anyone can get through her and deceive her easily. She always could not really stand up for herself or even speak up.
As soon as Martia stands up and gets in the center, the class starts whispering and there is some laughter in the back.
"SETTLE DOWN, STOP TALKING, THERE WILL BE NO TALKING IN THIS CLASS WHEN SOMEONE GIVES THEIR SPEECH, SO WHO EVER INTERRUPTS, YOU WILL BE PUT OUTSIDE, AND I CAN SEND YOU TO DETENTION," Mr. Alexander said, and the whole class gets extremely silent after his loud firm speech. "Now Martia, it's your turn to ask us what is your future career plans? And what town were you born and raised from?" He informs.
"My...My...My..." Martia starts stuttering in agitation, and everyone laughs.
"Martia, look at me, it's okay," Mala instructs her, and Martia nods her head.
"My future career is to become a dancer, and I was born and raised in India," she said, going back to her seat swiftly with her head down.
"See Martia, now that wasn't so bad after all was it?" Mala said.
"No it wasn't, thanks for having my back sis," she said.
"You welcome sis," she said.
"Now, Trenti Agarwal," Mr. Alexander calls out.
"My future career is to be an actor, and just like my sister Martia told you all, we are from North India where we celebrate my favorite holiday, which is Diwali, and..." Getting cut off.
"That's all we want to know Trenti, thank you," Mr. Alexander said.
Trenti walks back to his seat.
"Trenti, I know you did not just mention Diwali, he did not ask us about our favorite holiday, the Americans doesn't care about our festival, so you did not have to say that," Mala instructs.
"Hey I enjoy talking, I can't help it," Trenti said, and the group starts laughing.
"Mala Agarwal," Mr. Alexander calls.
"I'm from India, and my future career is to become a fashion designer," she said.
"That is so cool," Kathy said to her as she takes her seat.
"Thanks," she said.
"Now, Mara," Mr. Alexander said.
"My future career is to be an artist of drawing self portraits and comic books, and I was born in India," she said.
"Wow, now that's a cool gig," Jake said to Mara.
"Thanks Jake," she said.
The whole class was done giving their speeches within 20 minutes, and after that, they has 10 minutes to socialize.
