Our ancestors were enslaved.
Their stomachs were hardly feed.
You know they didn't want us to get ahead!
So they forbid us not to read.
I used to let this affect me so much,
That I forgot about the now.
I can't change the past,
But I can sharpen the present!
I remember my stomach starving,
Me and mother barely surviving!
Today, I am not starving,
I will always remember my stomach too grawling,
And never forget my ancestors hollering!
So when I walk that stage in Spring 2022,
They're going to be applauding!
